Piyush, Neelam win cross-country races at Manali’s Jawaharlal Nehru College

Students showcase sportsmanship and team spirit at National Sports Day event

College campus witnesses enthusiastic participation in a range of sporting competitions

On the occasion of National Sports Day, the Department of Physical Education organised various sports competitions at Jawaharlal Nehru College of Haripur in Manali. Dr. Jyoti Bala, Head of the Physical Education Department, stated that competitions such as a 10-kilometer cross-country race, chess, a three-legged race, and a tug-of-war were held. Students participated enthusiastically in these competitions, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, discipline, and team spirit.

A total of 50 runners participated in the 10-kilometer cross-country race, both in the men’s and women’s categories. Piyush (3rd year BA) secure first place in the men’s category, while Ashish (1st year BA) took second place. while Neelam finished first and Shabbu second in the women’s category.

A chess competition was organized under the supervision of Prof. Sunny Thakur. Saksham (1st year BA) and Kapil (3rd year B. Com) took first place, while the students demonstrated their intellectual abilities, concentration, and strategic skills.

In the women’s three-leg race, the pair of Palak and Aryika (2nd year BA) took first place, while Megha and Rama took second place. In the men’s category, the pair of Ishaan and Hemant (2nd year BA) took first place, while Ashish and Pramod (1st year BA) took second place.

A total of 12 teams participated in the tug-of-war competition. In the women’s category, the team of Aryika, Deepa, Ritu, Palak, Neelam, Siya, Sania, Shabbu, Sanjana, and Menaka emerged victorious. In the men’s category, the team of Vikas, Rahul, Pankaj, Neeraj, Shubham, Satyam, Ishaan, Rohit, Aryan, and Bhupendra took first place.

The three-legged race and tug-of-war demonstrated the students’ team spirit, coordination, and enthusiasm. An enthusiastic atmosphere prevailed on the college campus during the competitions.

On this occasion, the chief guest, college principal Dr. Shefali, wished the students a happy National Sports Day. She said that sports are not just about winning and losing; they also foster discipline, self-confidence, leadership skills, unity, and a healthy lifestyle.
