Patiala, July 1

Members of the electricity board’s meter reader union in Patiala climbed a water tank at Mata Kaushalya area while carrying petrol bottles as part of their ongoing protest over employment-related demands on Wednesday.

The protest entered its ninth day, with nine young meter readers climbing the water tank in the morning and announcing further action if their demands were not addressed.

The union members said they had been working on an outsourced basis for several years and were receiving monthly salaries between ₹3,000 and ₹4,000. They claimed that multiple meetings had been held with the management, requesting that they be brought under the department, but no action had been taken.

The protesting employees said they were forced to climb the water tank to intensify their demonstration. They warned that if the government or management attempted any action against them, they would further strengthen their protest.
