Patiala, June 9
The Patiala district administration has issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), placing strict restrictions on protests, demonstrations and public gatherings that disrupt official work within the district limits.
According to an order issued by the Office of the District Magistrate, no group of five or more persons will be allowed to assemble for meetings, slogan-shouting, demonstrations, or similar activities that may affect government functioning within Patiala district.
The administration stated that the restrictions will remain in force from June 16 until August 5.
The order comes amid ongoing agitation outside the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office, where protesters have been staging demonstrations for some time. Due to the protest, Malwa Road has remained completely blocked, causing major inconvenience and traffic-related difficulties for residents of Patiala.
Officials said the restrictions were imposed to maintain public order and ensure the smooth functioning of the district administration.
