Panchkula, June 8
In a major push to ensure accurate and updated electoral rolls, the Panchkula district administration has officially launched the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process. Addressing a press conference at the District Secretariat today, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchkula shared critical operational guidelines and key timelines for the central government-mandated drive.
The high-stakes electoral verification process, spearheaded by the Government of India, aims to conduct a fully transparent, door-to-door verification campaign across the entire district. The administration has urged the media to actively amplify this message to ensure maximum public awareness and participation.
Detailing the strict roadmap for the revision drive, the Deputy Commissioner announced that the crucial door-to-doorphase will take place from June 15 to July 14. During this month-long window, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to distribute and collect the necessary voter forms, culminating in the release of the Final Electoral Publication on September 22, 2026.
To ensure seamless execution, a dedicated force of 455 BLOs has been deployed across the district, covering both the Kalka and Panchkula segments. These officers are currently undergoing rigorous training, while local political parties are also coordinating with their grassroots workers to help clear public doubts and assist residents during the field visits.
Addressing security and safety concerns, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that strict measures are in place to prevent any fraudulent activity. Citizens have been advised to verify the credentials of visiting officers and can immediately contact the official helpline numbers issued by the Panchkula administration or their respective BLOs in case of any suspicious or fraudulent behavior.
Following a high-profile complaint submitted to the Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary regarding a land controversy worth over Rs 200 crore, the state government has sought an official report from the current Panchkula Deputy Commissioner, Satpal Sharma, regarding allegations against former DC and IAS officer Sushil Sarwan for allegedly transferring shamlat (common village land) and registering prime Municipal Corporation land to a hotel businessman. Commenting on the development, DC Satpal Sharma confirmed that the state administration has only requested relevant documents from the local desk, stating that the Panchkula administration will cooperate fully, compile the required records, and submit the complete paperwork very shortly.
