Srinagar, July 28
Musa, the mastermind behind the Pahalgam terror attack and a top commander of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, was killed along with two other terrorists in an encounter with security forces on Monday. The gunfight took place in the dense Mulnar forest area of Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar city. According to security officials, the joint operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs. However, no formal statement has yet been issued by authorities, and further details are awaited.
Moosa, believed to have once served as a para-commando in Pakistan’s elite Special Service Group, is said to have infiltrated into India in 2023. He was subsequently linked to a series of deadly attacks across Jammu and Kashmir.
In October 2024, he was reportedly involved in a terror assault in Ganderbal district that killed seven civilians. He was also behind an ambush in Baramulla that left four security personnel dead, according to Indian intelligence agencies. Overall, Musa is suspected of playing a role in at least six attacks in the Kashmir Valley.
Security forces are continuing search operations in the area, with officials warning that infiltration attempts across the Line of Control may see an uptick in the coming weeks.
