Shimla, June 15
Concerns are growing among Himachal Pradesh orchardists following the Centre’s new fuel control order, with farmers reporting difficulties in accessing diesel and petrol after restrictions on bulk purchases came into effect. The issue is particularly affecting horticulture operations that rely heavily on fuel for irrigation systems, machinery, and transportation.
The Centre recently introduced the revised petrol and diesel control order to curb hoarding, black marketing, and misuse of fuel. However, its impact is now being felt in Himachal’s horticulture sector, where growers say the restrictions are creating operational challenges during a crucial period.
Theog MLA and Congress national spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Rathore termed the matter serious and urged authorities to provide immediate relief to orchardists. He warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, horticulture activities and the livelihoods of farmers could face significant disruptions.
Rathore said he has discussed the matter with Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, urging the state government to take up the issue strongly with the Centre.
Questioning the rationale behind the restrictions, Rathore said that if the Centre maintains there is no shortage of petrol and diesel, then such limitations on bulk purchases require clarification.
He cautioned that any prolonged disruption in fuel availability could directly impact the upcoming apple season and the economy of thousands of orchardists dependent on horticulture across the state.
