The district-level Independence Day celebration was held with great enthusiasm at the Police Ground in Dharamshala on Saturday. Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Prof. Chaudhary Chandra Kumar attended the celebration as the chief guest and hoisted the national flag. He also took the salute of the march-past.
Several cultural programmes were organised during the celebration. Palampur MLA Ashish Butail, senior officials of the district administration and police department, and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media after the celebration, Agriculture Minister Chaudhary Chandra Kumar said that Independence Day is not merely a formal occasion but a national festival. He said all elected representatives and citizens should participate in the celebrations with enthusiasm.
The minister said Himachal Pradesh has made significant progress in the economic and social sectors since Independence. He highlighted development in roads, water supply, healthcare and education, and described Himachal Pradesh as a model state for other states.
On encouraging youth to take up agriculture, Chaudhary Chandra Kumar said the state government is bringing changes to the agricultural sector. Modern laboratories are being established in Solan, while training and subsidy provisions will also be made available. He urged young people to bring agriculture into the mainstream and help revive the sector.
On the issue of stray cattle, the minister said the problem is not limited to Himachal Pradesh and is being faced by several states. He said the cattle census has been completed and further action will be taken after the Central Government approves the data.
On the proposed Cabinet expansion, Chaudhary Chandra Kumar said that the Chief Minister should be asked about the matter.
