As Netflix marked 10 years of operations in India, its Co-Chief Executive Officer Ted Sarandos met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to discuss expanding India’s role in the global media and entertainment industry and announced a new initiative aimed at nurturing creative talent.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Prime Minister Modi said he was glad to meet Sarandos and discuss the vast potential of India’s media and entertainment sector.”Glad to have met Ted Sarandos and discussed the immense potential of India’s media and entertainment sector. India has a rich tradition of storytelling and an extraordinary pool of creative talent, which can be leveraged to strengthen our nation’s position as a global hub for content creation,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Netflix later announced the launch of the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, describing it as a long-term investment to support the next generation of Indian storytellers through skilling and education partnerships with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
In a post on X, the streaming platform said the initiative reflects its commitment to India’s creative ecosystem as it celebrates a decade in the country.
“We unveiled the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, an investment that will help nurture the next generation of India’s creative talent through skilling and education partnerships with IICT and NFDC. We can’t wait to see what India creates next,” Netflix said while sharing the photographs of Sarandos with the Prime Minister.
