Dharamshala, May 14
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Central Government over the NEET examination controversy while visiting Kangra Airport and later proceeding to Dharamshala Cricket Stadium to encourage the Punjab Kings team ahead of their IPL clash.
Speaking to reporters, Mann said the cancellation of the NEET examination reflects a serious administrative failure. He alleged that repeated incidents of paper leaks have severely impacted students across the country, shattering their aspirations and future plans.
“Lakhs of students work hard day and night, hoping to secure a better future for their families. But when exams are cancelled due to paper leaks, their dreams are broken,” Mann said.
He further claimed that similar incidents have been reported in 2017, 2021, 2024, and now again in 2026, alleging that despite investigations by agencies like the CBI and multiple arrests, accused individuals often secure bail and continue operating within what he described as an organised “paper leak mafia.”
The Chief Minister also accused BJP-led “double engine” and “triple engine” governments of failing to curb such irregularities, remarking, “Paper leaked, dreams shattered… the system cannot even conduct examinations properly.”
Extending his criticism to the Prime Minister, Mann alleged that while restrictions are being imposed on citizens, the Prime Minister is frequently travelling abroad. He also questioned the transparency of the country’s economic situation, demanding clarity on issues related to oil and gold reserves and national restrictions.
On Punjab’s anti-drug campaign, Mann said the state government is taking strict action against drug traffickers, claiming that several offenders have already been jailed and that efforts are ongoing to make Punjab drug-free.
Amid the political remarks, the Chief Minister also engaged in a sporting engagement, visiting Dharamshala ahead of the IPL match between the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians. He said, in his capacity as Punjab’s Sports Minister, he was present to boost the morale of the team and expressed confidence in their performance.
The visit combined political commentary with sporting enthusiasm, highlighting both governance concerns and regional sporting interests.
