NC-Congress Forge Alliance for J&K Assembly Polls

The National Conference (NC) and Congress have officially joined forces for the upcoming three-phase Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, set to kick off next month. According to the news outlet The Tribune, the alliance, covering all 90 seats in the Union Territory, was solidified during a meeting between NC President Farooq Abdullah and Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Farooq Abdullah announced the collaboration, highlighting that the talks were held in a positive atmosphere. While seat-sharing details are still being finalized, Congress has reportedly requested more than 10 seats in Kashmir, a demand that may face resistance. Abdullah emphasized the alliance’s commitment to the restoration of J&K’s statehood, expressing confidence in garnering public support.

Further broadening the coalition, CPM leader Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami is also on board, and efforts are underway to include other like-minded parties. While the possibility of the PDP joining the alliance remains open, Abdullah stated that such decisions would be made post-election, The Tribune reported. The NC-Congress alliance signals a united front aiming to challenge the current political landscape in J&K, with a primary focus on reinstating statehood.
