Chandigarh, April 8
Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former Punjab Congress chief and ex-cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Wednesday announced that her newly formed Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party will contest all 117 assembly seats in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh, she clarified that her husband is currently not associated with any political party and has not been approached by Congress since 2022.
Reflecting on the 2017 Congress government formation, she said that despite initial promises, Sidhu received only one department—and that too after a year and a half. She described him as “free-spirited” and suggested that his political distance stems from past disagreements with party leadership.
Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu also unveiled her party, the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, under which she plans to contest elections. She said roles within the party will be assigned based on expertise, with a strong focus on farmers and local governance.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has largely stayed away from active politics in recent years, appearing instead on IPL commentary panels and television shows. He has occasionally met the public during visits to Amritsar, posing for selfies and interacting with fans, but has refrained from making political statements.
