Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the strong action had been taken against those involved in the NEET paper leak to protect the future of millions of students, urging states to work with the Centre to prevent similar incidents.
For lakhs of students preparing for competitive examinations, the integrity of the system is linked to years of hard work and family aspirations. Addressing concerns over the controversy surrounding the medical entrance examination, Modi said safeguarding students’ futures must remain a national priority.
Speaking to reporters after the BJP’s Mangal Milan programme, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s swift response after reports of the NEET paper leak surfaced.
According to Rijiju, authorities acted immediately, leading to the arrest of 13 people allegedly involved in the paper leak racket. He said the accused had been sent to jail.
Modi also said the government prioritised conducting the NEET re-examination so that students were not disadvantaged by the alleged malpractice. The examination was held successfully and the results were declared without delay, Rijiju said.
He added that the Prime Minister outlined measures to prevent future paper leaks, saying stricter safeguards had been put in place and those involved had been arrested and prosecuted.
Rijiju said Modi called for the toughest possible punishment for those responsible, adding that the government would seek the support of the country’s leading legal experts to ensure those involved faced exemplary action.
Modi appealed to states to join hands with the Centre to tackle examination fraud. He further said that a coordinated national effort was essential to protect students’ interests and restore confidence in the country’s examination system.
