Chandigarh, May 20
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday announced free travel in Punjab Roadways buses for students appearing in the NEET UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. The facility will remain available on June 20, 21 and 22 for students carrying valid admit cards.
The decision was taken after several NEET aspirants raised concerns about financial difficulties and mental stress following the cancellation of the May 3 examination due to alleged irregularities in the process. In a statement shared on social media, Mann said many students from economically weaker families were struggling to afford travel expenses to their examination centres. He said the Punjab government had decided to waive bus fares for NEET candidates in all Punjab Roadways buses during the examination period.
The issue was earlier highlighted by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who said many students had contacted him regarding the financial burden caused by the re-examination. He also referred to concerns of anxiety, frustration and stress among students after the cancellation and rescheduling of the examination.
Kejriwal said the move would help reduce some pressure on students and their families during the re-examination process. The NEET UG re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21 across the country following allegations of irregularities in the earlier examination conducted on May 3.
