Manali, May 15
Election campaigning for the upcoming Manali Municipal Council polls has intensified, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress expressing confidence that they will form the next civic body.
The polling is scheduled for May 17, with results to decide the fate of candidates across seven wards. The hill town has witnessed heightened political activity as candidates and party leaders carry out door to door campaigning to seek voter support.
BJP leader and former minister Govind Singh Thakur campaigned in support of BJP backed candidates and said the party was confident of winning all seven wards. He claimed the public mood favored the BJP and expressed confidence that the party would once again form the municipal council in Manali.
On the other hand, Congress MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur also stepped up campaigning for Congress supported candidates. He urged voters to support the party in large numbers and said that the Congress was contesting the elections in a united manner across all wards.
Independent candidates are also in the fray, adding further competition to the civic polls. Both parties continue to make contrasting claims as campaigning enters its final phase ahead of voting.
