Shimla, April 28
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of a 26 year old woman who was killed during an alleged celebratory firing at a temple consecration ceremony in Kulgaon village of Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Sunday during a religious ceremony where people were dancing when a bullet was fired. The bullet struck Ritika, a resident of Chidgaon in Rohru, resulting in her death on the spot. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap has ordered the inquiry and appointed Additional District Magistrate Law and Order Pankaj Sharma as the inquiry officer.
Officials said the inquiry will examine the sequence of events leading to the firing, ascertain the exact cause of death, and assign responsibility to those involved. It will also look into possible lapses by event organizers and any violations of provisions of the Arms Act.
The inquiry officer has also been asked to recommend necessary legal and administrative action in the matter.
Authorities have directed that the report be submitted within seven days, as further action will be taken based on its findings.
