Junior doctors who have been protesting since August 9 announced a “partial” lifting of their “cease-work,” stating they will resume essential and emergency services in hospitals from Saturday but will continue to abstain from working in the Outpatient Department (OPD). The doctors also confirmed they would end their sit-in protest outside Swasthya Bhawan, the state health department headquarters, after a march to the CBI office on Friday, the news outlet The Indian Express reported. Despite this, the protesters emphasized that their “fight for justice” will persist. This decision comes just days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conceded to their demand for the removal of senior police and health officials. The doctors’ protest was triggered by the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
