Dharamshala, May 22
The Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala has opened a new gallery on its ground floor, showcasing a rich collection of historical and cultural artifacts that are attracting a growing number of visitors.
The newly launched gallery features British-era guns, swords, and pistols along with traditional Himachali spinning wheels, Jaipuri pottery, sculptures, ancient coins, and deity palanquins. Museum authorities said the initiative aims to provide visitors with easier access to heritage exhibits immediately upon entering the museum premises.
Earlier, historical artifacts were displayed only on the museum’s upper floor. Yet with the addition of the ground-floor gallery, visitor engagement has increased significantly. More than 150 people visit the museum daily to explore its exhibits.
The museum administration has also revised the entry fee for domestic visitors from Rs 50 to Rs 100, while the fee for foreign tourists remains unchanged at Rs 200.
Ritu Malkotia, Chairperson of the Kangra Art Museum, said the gallery was inaugurated on May 18 and includes sculptures, coins, Jaipuri pottery, and deity palanquins. She added that the weapons on display were provided by the Shimla Museum and have become a major attraction among visitors.
