Jammu, June 8

The Police in Kathua district have put in place extensive security arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3, with authorities focusing on surveillance, highway monitoring, intelligence coordination, and pilgrim safety.

The 57 day pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine will witness heightened security measures across the yatra route, including drone based surveillance, intensified checking operations, and round the clock monitoring along highways and railway tracks.

The security preparedness was reviewed during a coordination meeting held at the District Police Lines in Kathua. Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma chaired the meeting, which was attended by officers from the police, the Army, the Border Security Force, the Central Reserve Police Force, and intelligence agencies.

Officials discussed convoy management, emergency response systems, the deployment of Quick Reaction Teams, and measures to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims without inconveniencing devotees.

Sharma stressed the need for maximum vigilance and directed officers to maintain close coordination with all security and intelligence agencies. She also instructed officials to strengthen inspections at lodgement centres, langars, and other facilities linked to the pilgrimage.

Authorities have intensified intelligence gathering and verification drives along the National Highway, including checks at hotels, dhabas, and rented accommodations. Tenant verification and monitoring of suspicious activity are also being carried out as part of the broader security strategy.

Police have additionally planned anti sabotage checks using dog squads and X ray machines at key locations, including the Lakhanpur base camp and other important yatra points. CCTV surveillance is also being expanded, with dedicated monitoring teams expected to operate throughout the pilgrimage period.

Officials said special attention is being given to inter agency coordination involving police, paramilitary forces, traffic authorities, health services, and the civil administration to ensure a prompt response in case of any emergency.

The Kathua police said the focus remains on ensuring the safe, smooth, and successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra while maintaining a pilgrim friendly environment throughout the route.
