Srinagar, April 25
Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir recovered several digital communication devices and incriminating material from Srinagar Central Jail during a search operation conducted in connection with a terror-related case, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials, the operation was carried out by the Counter-Intelligence wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police after inputs indicated the presence of suspicious digital signals inside the high-security prison. The case is registered under relevant sections of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir unit conducted searches across multiple blocks and barracks of the jail in coordination with prison authorities. During the operation, officials said, various electronic communication devices and other material were seized.
Officials added that the recovered items will undergo forensic examination to determine possible links to illegal or terror-related activities.
The special wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has initiated an investigation into what is being seen as a security breach that allowed such devices to enter the high-security facility.
Authorities said the role of individuals who may have facilitated or assisted in smuggling the devices into the jail will also be examined, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the investigation’s findings.
