New Delhi, June 9

India on Tuesday strongly criticised Pakistan over reports of violence against protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), urging the international community to hold Islamabad accountable for what it described as human rights abuses. The response came after reports suggested that more than 20 people were killed during police action against demonstrators in different parts of PoK.

Speaking at a media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal accused Pakistan of attempting to divert attention from its domestic challenges and allegations of rights violations.

Jaiswal said India had observed what it described as a pattern of misinformation and misleading content emerging from Pakistan. According to him, such efforts were aimed at shifting focus away from serious concerns over the treatment of people in territories under Pakistan’s control.

Referring to reports from PoK, he said there were allegations of excessive use of force by security personnel against protesters, resulting in deaths and injuries. He added that the developments raised concerns about the situation on the ground and the handling of public dissent.

India called on the international community to take note of the reported incidents and ensure accountability for any abuses committed against civilians.

The remarks highlight the continuing tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, with both countries frequently raising concerns about conditions in territories administered by the other.

Pakistan has not publicly responded to India’s latest comments. Independent verification of the reported casualty figures was not immediately available.

The situation in PoK remains under close watch as reports continue to emerge about the unrest and the response by authorities.
