India’s armed forces carried out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, the government said.
The overnight operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, targeted nine locations used for planning and directing cross-border terrorist attacks. Around 70 to 80 terrorists were reportedly killed in the Indian air strike.
“A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted,” the government saud in an official statement.
Sharing details, the government further said that our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. “No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution. These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. There will be detailed briefing on ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, later today,” the government said.
The Indian Army posted on social media shortly after the strikes were announced, stating, “Justice is served. Jai Hind.”
The targeted areas include Bahawalpur, Muridke, Gulpur, Bhimber, Chak Amru, Bagh, Kotli, Sialkot and Muzaffarabad.

According to sources, the main objective was to eliminate top terrorist leaders of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously monitoring the operation from his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, while National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is providing him with regular updates.
NSA Doval reportedly held over 15 meetings with security and defence agencies in preparation
Doval also informed his U.S. counterpart and Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the Indian Armed Forces’ targeted action against nine terror camps in Pakistan, according to a statement by the Indian Embassy in Washington.
