New Delhi, June 8
Leaders of 25 opposition parties meeting under the INDIA bloc banner in New Delhi on Monday agreed on a series of joint actions, including writing to the Chief Justice of India over concerns related to voter rolls and alleged electoral irregularities. Addressing reporters after the meeting, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the alliance had reached a consensus on several key issues and would continue coordinating its strategy during the ongoing political session.
Among the decisions taken was a demand for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Opposition leaders alleged that the handling of the NEET and CBSE examination issues had affected the interests of lakhs of students and required political accountability.
The alliance also urged the central government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss what it described as pressing economic challenges, including unemployment, rising prices, farmers’ concerns and issues affecting marginalised communities.
Kharge said the opposition parties had agreed to meet every two months to strengthen coordination. The next INDIA bloc meeting is expected to be held in Hyderabad in August.
Several senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav, attended the meeting. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren participated virtually.
The gathering comes as opposition parties seek to present a united front on political and economic issues ahead of key parliamentary debates and future electoral contests.
