A 48-year-old man from Rampur Seudi village in Pinjore was allegedly run over by a pickup vehicle and later found dead under suspicious circumstances in Panchkula’s Nada Chowki area, triggering outrage among family members and local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Charanjit Singh, son of Niranjan Singh, and a resident of House No. 28, Rampur Seudi village, Panchkula.

According to family members, Charanjit Singh was crossing the road near the uphill stretch of Rampur Seudi village around 1 pm when a small pickup vehicle coming from the Pinjore side allegedly struck him. The impact reportedly left him seriously injured and lying on the roadside.

Relatives claimed that two occupants of the pickup vehicle assured bystanders that they were taking the injured man to a hospital for treatment. However, instead of seeking medical help, they allegedly drove around for nearly one to one-and-a-half hours before abandoning him wrapped in a tarpaulin beneath a power transformer near Nada Chowki village in Panchkula.

Local residents who noticed the body informed the police, following which the family was alerted.

Family members said they had been searching for Charanjit Singh after learning about the accident and had visited several hospitals, including Pinjore Hospital, Kalka Hospital, Sector 6 Civil Hospital in Panchkula, and other medical facilities, but were unable to trace him.

Following the incident, relatives of the deceased, former village sarpanch Yogendra Thakur Lamboo, and several local residents gathered at Amaravati Police Chowki and demanded strict action against those responsible.

The family also reviewed CCTV footage from the Chandimandir toll plaza, which reportedly helped identify the pickup vehicle’s registration number involved in the case.

According to relatives, they repeatedly tried calling Charanjit Singh’s mobile phone after the accident. Initially, the phone continued to ring, but it was later switched off.

Police have initiated further investigation into the matter and are working to trace the occupants of the vehicle.

Charanjit Singh worked as a security guard and is survived by a son and a daughter. News of his death has left the family and local community in deep shock.
