Dharamshala, August 12

A room for a proposed police post in Bhagsunag, a popular tourist area near McLeodganj, has been ready for the past six months, but police personnel are yet to be deployed. Local residents had been demanding a police post due to repeated incidents of fights and other disturbances in the area.

Residents approached the Kangra Deputy Commissioner, whose assistance helped facilitate the construction of the room. The keys of the completed facility have already been handed over to the police administration.

Several incidents of clashes have been reported in Bhagsunag over the past few years, including one incident in which a youth died. Residents have also sought a permanent police presence to control anti-social activities and improve traffic management, particularly with the steady rise in tourist arrivals.

After the room was completed, local residents met the Kangra Superintendent of Police and requested the deployment of four to five police personnel at the post.

Despite staff shortages, police authorities are reportedly working to improve traffic arrangements in the area. Bhagsunag, Upper Bhagsu, Dharamkot, Duslani and surrounding areas attract tourists throughout the year, while the local population has also increased.

Residents said a dedicated police post would improve public safety, regulate traffic and help curb anti-social activities in the area.
