Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a sharp drop in temperatures in October, with mercury levels falling by up to 9 degrees celsius over the past few days. The Meteorological Center, Shimla, has forecast unsettled weather over the next three days, with snowfall likely in higher reaches and rain expected in lower areas.
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a scientist at the Meteorological Center, Shimla, said the state’s average maximum temperature had dropped by 6 to 9 degrees celsius over the past 24 hours.
He said a western disturbance is expected to become active from the evening of October 13, bringing the possibility of light snowfall over the higher reaches of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Kangra. Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur may experience thunderstorms and rainfall at isolated places.
Rainfall and snowfall activity are likely to intensify across most parts of the state on October 14 and 15, while weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from October 16.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents and tourists to avoid visiting high-altitude areas during this period. Farmers have also been urged to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from adverse weather conditions.
