Shimla, July 2

Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh, with 46 roads closed in various parts of the state and essential infrastructure damaged. The Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 2 to July 5, except July 3.

According to officials, the affected roads are spread across the districts of Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, Lahaul and Spiti, and Una. The heavy rain also damaged 181 electricity transformers and disrupted six water supply schemes, affecting public services in several areas.

Paonta Sahib recorded the highest rainfall of 100.4 mm, making it one of the worst-affected locations during the latest spell of rain.

To strengthen preparedness for the monsoon season, authorities have deployed a 30-member team of the National Disaster Response Force in Shimla. The team has been stationed to respond quickly to emergencies and assist with rain-related incidents.

Officials said four people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Wednesday, highlighting the impact of the continuing wet weather across the state.

The India Meteorological Department said an orange alert means people should be prepared for adverse weather conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, road closures, traffic disruptions and power outages in vulnerable areas over the coming days.
