Dharamshala, June 16
The Himachal Pradesh Pensioners Joint Struggle Committee on Tuesday warned the state government of an intensified agitation if pending liabilities of pensioners are not cleared by July 31, 2026.
The warning was issued during a committee meeting held in Dharamshala under the chairmanship of state president Suresh Thakur. More than 250 pensioners from 12 blocks across the state attended the meeting, including a large number of elderly and women pensioners.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding pensioners’ rights, benefits and long-pending demands. The committee reiterated concerns over unpaid dues, pending medical reimbursement bills, and dearness allowance arrears.
Addressing the gathering, Suresh Thakur said the issues concerning pensioners had previously been raised before the Chief Minister, who assured the committee that all pending liabilities would be cleared by July 31, 2026.
He further stated that the Chief Minister had promised to release Rs 100 crore to settle pending medical bills for pensioners. According to Thakur, Rs 51 crore has already been allocated, and a notification to this effect is expected to be issued soon.
The meeting also discussed the demand for a 15 percent dearness allowance for pensioners.
“ If the pending liabilities and other demands of pensioners are not resolved by July 31, pensioners across the state will be compelled to launch an intensified agitation against the government,” Thakur warned.
