Gold prices fall below Rs 1.53 lakh, silver drops below Rs 2.40 lakh per kg
Chandigarh, September 21
Gold and silver prices fell on Monday, with gold slipping below Rs 1,53,400 per 10 grams and silver below Rs 2.40 lakh per kg, according to data from the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX), a SEBI-regulated commodity exchange.
The October gold futures contract on the MCX was trading at Rs 1,53,393 per 10 grams, down Rs 988 or 0.64 per cent from the previous close of Rs 1,54,381, as of 12.07 pm.
The December silver futures contract on the MCX was trading at Rs 2,39,789 per kg, down Rs 1,814 or 0.75 per cent from the previous close.
The figures are futures-market prices and may differ from the rates offered to consumers by jewellers.
The fall came after gold and silver prices had gone up for two days in a row. A stronger US dollar and higher US Treasury yields also put pressure on gold prices in global markets.
