The Punjab government has appointed G. Nageswara Rao, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1995 batch, as the new Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau. Rao, who was previously serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Provisioning, takes over from Special Director General of Police Varinder Kumar, an IPS officer from the 1993 batch. Kumar has been relieved of his duties and will report to the Director General of Police, Punjab, for further responsibilities.
Rao brings extensive experience to the role, having held significant positions including Special Principal Secretary in the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Director of the Vigilance Bureau, and various roles within the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Visakhapatnam and Chennai. A Civil Engineering graduate, Rao has been honoured with numerous accolades, including the United Nations Medal for his work with CIVPOL in Kosovo (2004), the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2011, and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2023.
