Gurdas Maan, Neeru Bajwa and Moosewala’s father join growing wave of solidarity, with artistes putting commitments on hold over Mansa murder
Chandigarh: Punjabi singers and film personalities have rallied behind the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota following his killing in Mansa on October 13, as protests intensify and demands for justice grow.
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh expressed solidarity with the family through a social media post, referring to Jhota as “Shaheed Parvinder Singh” and calling for justice. Babbu Maan visited the protest site in Mansa, joining the growing chorus of voices demanding accountability.
Meanwhile, singer Gurdas Maan has postponed his scheduled October 25 show at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology in Amritsar amid the protests. The revised date is yet to be announced.
The show of solidarity has extended beyond the protest site, with artistes putting professional commitments on hold in response to the public anger over Jhota’s killing.
Balkaur Singh, father of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala, has also postponed the remaining dates of his son’s ‘Signed to God’ hologram tour in Canada and the US. The shows in Toronto and Vancouver had already taken place, while the remaining performances were put on hold.
Actor Neeru Bajwa has announced that screenings of her Punjabi film ‘Thaapi’, released on October 16, would be put on hold amid the prevailing situation.
The growing involvement of Punjabi artistes has brought wider attention to the case, with supporters continuing to demand justice for Jhotta’s family and accountability over his killing.
