SP City Mohit Agrawal says raids are continuing to trace the accused

A Patiala police team returned from Delhi without arresting a foreign cycling coach accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old cycling player at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), officials said on Tuesday.

The police team raided several locations in Delhi to trace the accused coach, identified as Maxat, but officials said they could not arrest him.

The case was registered against Maxat at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala on September 18, based on the girl’s statement, according to the FIR.

According to the FIR, the alleged sexual abuse took place at the NIS campus seven days before the case was registered. The player later informed her family about the incident, following which her father reached Patiala and approached the police.

According to the police, the family also approached the sports institute with a complaint before approaching the police. A woman police inspector supervised the victim’s medical examination. Officials said they are awaiting the medical report.

At a press conference in Patiala on Tuesday, SP City Mohit Agrawal said police teams continued to conduct raids to arrest the accused. Agrawal said the FIR was registered based on the girl’s statement and that efforts were underway to locate the accused.

The police have not yet announced Maxat’s arrest. The allegations against the coach are under investigation and have not been established in court.
