Panchkula, July 10
Panchkula Police rescued around 25 cows and calves trapped in the swollen Ghaggar River after continuous heavy rainfall caused the river’s water level and current to rise sharply across the district.
With persistent rainfall increasing the risk of flooding, the district administration and Panchkula Police had already put extensive safety measures in place to respond to any emergency. Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta, all station house officers and police post in-charges had been instructed to conduct regular patrols in their respective areas and ensure the safety of both residents and animals.
Following these directions, Sector 21 Police Post In-charge Sub-Inspector Didar Singh and his team were patrolling the area when they reached the banks of the Ghaggar River near Sector 21. They found approximately 25 cows and calves stranded in the strong current, with their lives at serious risk.
Despite torrential rain and the forceful river flow, the police personnel carried out a coordinated rescue operation with determination and teamwork. All the trapped cattle were safely brought out of the river and shifted to a secure location.
Commending the police team for the rescue, DCP Srishti Gupta said the role of the police extends beyond preventing crime and maintaining law and order.
“The duty of the police is not only to prevent crime and maintain law and order, but also to protect every life in danger, whether human or voiceless animals. When these cows and calves were trapped in the strong current of the Ghaggar River, our team decided to rescue them without delay because every life is precious to us. Panchkula Police will continue to remain fully prepared to assist people and voiceless animals with sensitivity and promptness during every disaster and crisis.”
