A female teacher from a private school in Delhi’s Janakpuri area has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a three-year-old student by a school caretaker, police said on Thursday.
The case surfaced after the child’s mother lodged a complaint at Janakpuri Police Station on May 1, alleging that her daughter was assaulted during school hours on April 30. According to police, the child later complained of pain and allegedly identified the school caretaker as the accused.
The 57-year-old caretaker was arrested earlier and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said the female teacher was arrested during the ongoing investigation into the case.
Authorities said CCTV footage, DVRs, and other evidence from the school premises have been seized. The caretaker was granted bail by a city court on May 7, and police said they would challenge the order in the Delhi High Court.
The victim’s family had also alleged the involvement of a teacher and accused police of delaying action, claims that police denied.
