Patiala, June 30

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought records of more than 20 properties linked to accused persons in the alleged scholarship scam at Punjabi University, Patiala. The agency has written to the Patiala Sub-Registrar’s office seeking details of properties connected with the case.

According to the letter issued by the ED, property details of Nishu Chaudhary, identified as the main accused in the scholarship scam case, have been sought. Records related to properties belonging to Kavita Chaudhary, Ravi Kapoor and Pooja Kapoor have also been requested.

The ED has stated that the investigation is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The properties under scrutiny are reportedly located in the village of Deelwal in Patiala.

The development comes after a committee constituted by Punjabi University to investigate the scholarship matter submitted its report to the university administration. The committee reportedly highlighted a scam amounting to ₹14 crore.

The case is now also being investigated by the ED due to the alleged financial irregularities and suspected involvement of university officials. Sources said the committee’s report mentioned the names of some officials and employees in connection with the matter.

However, no major action has been taken by the university administration so far, and officials have remained unwilling to comment on the issue. Questions have also been raised over the pace of the internal investigation.

Patiala Sub-Registrar Gulab Singh Thind said that his office had received a letter seeking records. He added that the required documents would be prepared and sent in accordance with the instructions in the letter.
