Drug abuse can be eradicated just as naxalism: Jai Ram Thakur

Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur lauds PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat as a platform of inspiration, calls for a people’s movement against drug abuse, and urges support for the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme, calling it a major source of inspiration for the country. He said the programme provides recognition and exposure to talented individuals working in different fields whose contributions may otherwise remain unnoticed. By highlighting their achievements before the nation, the Prime Minister not only honours their efforts but also inspires millions.

Thakur said drug abuse has emerged as a major challenge for India, particularly as the country’s young generation is increasingly becoming its target. He noted that the problem has reached even remote parts of Himachal Pradesh and stressed that tackling drug abuse must be a top priority.

He said the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to fighting drugs is clear. According to Thakur, combating drug abuse is not solely the responsibility of the government but a collective responsibility of society. He called for turning the fight against drugs into a people’s movement to achieve decisive results.

Thakur said that if the country could overcome a major challenge like Naxalism through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, drug abuse could also be eliminated. “Drugs will become a thing of the past,” he said, urging every citizen and every Himachali to actively participate in the fight.

Commenting on the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, Thakur said the Prime Minister also discussed important aspects of India’s history and highlighted initiatives being undertaken by people across the country to preserve history, culture and social values. Such efforts, he said, inspire others to take meaningful initiatives and contribute to society.

Thakur also welcomed Prime Minister Modi’s greetings to the nation on the occasion of Janmashtami and his call to promote the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’. He said promoting local products and local talent is an important step towards building a self-reliant India. Citizens should prioritize locally made products, thereby strengthening the economy and supporting the efforts of local communities.

Thakur said Mann Ki Baat has evolved beyond a radio program and has become a platform that connects millions of Indians and inspires them. He said every episode brings forward issues and stories from different parts of society from which people can learn and draw motivation.
