The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹1,220.12 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for 149 Software Defined Radios (SDRs) to enhance the Indian Coast Guard’s communication and operational efficiency. The advanced radios will enable secure data and voice transmission, boosting maritime law enforcement, search and rescue missions, and environmental protection efforts. They will also improve interoperability with the Indian Navy for joint operations. The deal, part of the ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ category, aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, strengthening domestic defence manufacturing while supporting maritime security and Blue Economy objectives.
