The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday expressed concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. “This incident follows multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh,” MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said.
He highlighted the ongoing violence, including arson, looting, theft, vandalism, and desecration of deities and temples, affecting minority communities. “While the perpetrators of these incidents remain unpunished, charges have been pressed against a religious leader peacefully presenting legitimate demands,” Jaiswal added.
The MEA also condemned the attacks on minorities who were protesting peacefully against Das’s arrest. “We urge Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, along with their right to peaceful assembly and expression,” the ministry said.
