Harnek had allegedly evaded investigation and trial since 2013

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested fugitive Harnek Singh after he was deported from the US. Harnek was produced before the CBI court in Panchkula on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody. Harnek was brought back to India after allegedly evading investigation and trial since 2013. An Interpol Red Notice and a Look-Out Circular had been issued against him, according to the CBI.
The CBI officials arrested Singh after he arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on September 9, 2026, following his deportation from the United States. The case was registered by the CBI in 2016 and relates to alleged offences of conspiracy, cheating, forgery and violations under the Information Technology Act.
According to the investigation, fraudsters allegedly impersonated Singapore immigration officials and targeted Indian citizens through spoofed calls. The accused allegedly induced victims to transfer money as part of the fraud. The CBI alleged that Singh received the proceeds of the fraud through his money-transfer outlet. After his arrest, the CBI produced Singh before the court in Panchkula. The court sent him to judicial custody.The next hearing in the matter has been fixed for September 23, when Singh will be produced before the court through video conference. The case remains under investigation by the CBI.
