Shimla, July 7

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced a statewide mass movement against the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of failing to fulfil its election promises and pursuing anti people policies. The decision was taken during a meeting of the BJP Core Group held at the party’s state headquarters, Deep Kamal, in Shimla.

The meeting was attended by BJP Himachal Pradesh in charge Shrikant Sharma, co incharge Sanjay Tandon, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, former Union Minister and MP Anurag Singh Thakur, MP Suresh Kashyap, Rajya Sabha MPs Harsh Mahajan and Dr Sikander Kumar, along with other members of the Core Group.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal said the party reviewed the political situation in Himachal Pradesh, the recently concluded Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections and its future organisational strategy.

Dr Bindal thanked the people of the state for supporting the BJP in the local body elections and claimed the results reflected public dissatisfaction with the Congress government’s three and a half years in office. He alleged that the government had attempted to delay the election process but the polls were eventually conducted following judicial intervention.

He claimed BJP backed candidates secured the posts of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson in all six Zila Parishads where elections have been held so far, while the Congress could not field candidates in five districts. Referring to the Municipal Corporation elections, he said the BJP formed the Mayor and Deputy Mayor leadership in three of the four municipal corporations, describing the outcome as a clear public mandate against the Congress government.

Announcing the party’s next course of action, Dr Bindal said the BJP would prepare a detailed chargesheet highlighting what it described as the Congress government’s failures, including unfulfilled promises made to women, youth, employees, farmers and orchardists. He said the campaign would be taken to every village and town across Himachal Pradesh.

He alleged that the government had failed to implement several major guarantees, including financial assistance for women, free electricity and procurement of milk and cow dung. He further claimed that development had slowed, corruption had increased and the law and order situation had deteriorated during the Congress government’s tenure.

Responding to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s remarks about the 2027 Assembly elections, Dr Bindal said the people had already expressed their opinion through the Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections and would once again decide the Congress government’s future.

Targeting the Congress over the Ram Temple issue, Dr Bindal alleged that the party had historically opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and could not erase its past position. He claimed the people had already delivered their verdict on the issue and said recent visits by Congress leaders to Ram temples reflected political compulsion rather than genuine faith.

Dr Bindal said the BJP would further strengthen its organisational network and public outreach while continuing to raise issues related to public welfare, development and governance across Himachal Pradesh.
