Sudhir Sharma on Thursday said the BJP has selected its candidates for the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections after carefully assessing the outcomes of previous polls, fielding several new faces.
Addressing mediapersons during the nomination process of BJP-backed candidates from the Zila Parishad wards of Jhikli Ichhi and Saukni Da Kot in the Dharamshala assembly constituency, Sharma said the party would contest the elections on the basis of public confidence rather than caste or regional divisions.
“The old political traditions that existed earlier have now come to an end,” Sharma remarked. Referring indirectly to critics, he added that those “calling themselves flies” were free to do so, and he had nothing further to say on the matter.
Before filing the nomination papers, Sharma accompanied the candidates to the ancient Hanuman Temple near the court complex, where prayers were offered.
The BJP has fielded Satish Chaudhary from Jhikli Ichhi ward and Seema from Saukni Da Kot ward. Both candidates submitted their nomination papers on Thursday in the presence of the MLA.
Sharma further informed that the BJP held a meeting regarding the Municipal Corporation elections a day earlier, during which party office-bearers were assigned responsibilities for various wards. He noted that although the Panchayati Raj elections are not being contested on party symbols, the BJP has still decided to support and field its own candidates.
He also said that several independent candidates who withdrew their nominations have extended support to the BJP nominees. Expressing confidence over the party’s prospects, Sharma claimed that the BJP would secure a full majority in the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections.
