BJP accuses Himachal CM Sukhu of nepotism, corruption

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, of promoting nepotism and deepening corruption.

Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, BJP state spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj alleged that the Sukhu administration has fostered favouritism and allowed corruption to reach its peak. He criticised the delay in opening collection centres despite the apple season having begun.

Bhardwaj claimed the Chief Minister had “crowned himself” to give associates a free hand in corrupt practices, citing recent Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) shop allocations as an example. Shops with a base price of ₹4,510 were allegedly allotted at ₹4,600 per month to preferred individuals, raising concerns over transparency. The BJP has demanded a fresh auction, alleging that the department’s secretary allotted shops to relatives at rates far below market value.
