Kullu, April 18
The District Congress Committee in Kullu on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of acting arbitrarily regarding women’s reservation and seeking undue credit for the proposed legislation.
At a press conference in Dhalpur, District Congress Committee President Sesar Ram Azad stated that the women’s reservation bill introduced by the Center was being managed in an arbitrary manner by the BJP. He emphasized that Congress has consistently supported women’s reservation and accused the BJP of using the issue for political gain.
Azad stated that Congress in Himachal Pradesh ensures adequate representation and respect for women within its organization. He added that women will continue to be prioritized in district and block-level party committees.
He alleged that the BJP is creating a “false narrative” of being pro-women. He further claimed that if the BJP were genuinely committed to women’s welfare, it would not have remained silent on past incidents involving women.
He also stated that block-level committee presidents have been announced, and full executive bodies at district and block levels will be formed within a week.
Expressing confidence ahead of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, Azad said Congress is fully prepared and expects its supported candidates to win.
