Himachal Pradesh BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, alleging that his recent remarks reflected a feudal mindset. He said India is a democracy in which leadership is determined by the people, not by royal lineage or inherited status.
Dr. Bindal said he has devoted more years to public service than Vikramaditya Singh’s present age and claimed that his family has been serving society since before Independence. He said he does not require any certificate from anyone to validate his contribution to public life.
The BJP leader also accused Vikramaditya Singh of repeatedly making false and personal allegations. Referring to an earlier dispute, Dr. Bindal said he had filed a defamation suit before the Himachal Pradesh High Court against the minister over remarks the minister made. He further claimed that Vikramaditya Singh had later approached him and requested that the case be withdrawn. According to Dr. Bindal, the minister continues to rely on personal attacks instead of engaging in constructive political discussion.
Targeting the Congress government, Dr. Bindal alleged that despite being in office for nearly four years, it has failed to address major public concerns such as deteriorating road infrastructure, unemployment, stalled development works and administrative inefficiency. He claimed that roads across the state are in poor condition while the Public Works Minister is more focused on publicity than governance.
Dr. Bindal also linked the Congress party’s recent electoral setbacks in Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections to public dissatisfaction with the government’s performance. He alleged that instead of accepting the verdict of the people, Congress leaders were attempting to divert attention from their failures by making personal allegations against BJP leaders. Referring to the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections, Dr. Bindal claimed that despite Vikramaditya Singh being in charge of the campaign, the Congress failed to win a single seat. He also alleged that the party could not register the expected success in Solan despite making tall claims.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Bindal urged the Congress government to focus on resolving issues such as poor roads, unemployment, and pending development projects rather than engaging in political rhetoric. He said the people of Himachal Pradesh are aware of the government’s performance and will not be misled by attempts to shift the political narrative.
