Kullu, June 18

The Himachal Pradesh Patwari and Kanungo Federation has urged the state government to implement the recommendations of the Balwan Committee, stating that nearly two years have passed since the committee submitted proposals concerning the demands of revenue officials.

The demand was raised during a meeting of the Kullu District Patwari and Kanungo Federation held at Dhalpur in Kullu district. During the meeting, Patwari Bhop Singh was appointed as the new president of the district unit.

Other appointments included Dilip Singh as General Secretary, Vishal Ratna as Senior Vice-President, and Pratap as Chief Adviser.

State Federation President Rajneesh Sharma attended the meeting as the chief guest and highlighted several issues faced by Patwaris and Kanungos across Himachal Pradesh.

Sharma said that the Balwan Committee had been constituted to address the demands of Patwaris and Kanungos and that recommendations had already been submitted to the government. However, despite nearly two years having passed, the recommendations had not yet been fully implemented.

He urged the state government to fulfill the committee’s recommendations at the earliest and address the concerns of revenue officials.

Speaking on organisational developments, Sharma announced that, for the first time, the federation had established a women’s wing in all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, with the initiative beginning in Kullu district.

He said Pavna had been appointed President of the Kullu Women’s Wing, while Sonam Sharma had been named General Secretary.

Sharma also highlighted infrastructure challenges faced by revenue officials, stating that many Patwar offices still lack internet connectivity despite the increasing reliance on digital systems.

“Even in the era of the internet, Patwar offices do not have proper internet facilities. Patwaris and Kanungos face considerable difficulties in conducting fieldwork. The government should seriously consider the federation’s issues,” he said.

Newly appointed district president Bhop Singh said Patwaris and Kanungos often face significant pressure while performing field duties and, in some cases, encounter incidents of physical assault.

He said the federation stands firmly with its members and would continue to raise issues related to Patwar offices and other essential facilities before the state government.

Singh added that further meetings of the federation would be organised in the coming months to discuss these concerns and formulate proposals for submission to the government.
