SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary promises arrest of accused within 24 hours
Patiala: An anti-drug activist was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on Tuesday morning, allegedly by a medical store owner, while the activist was livestreaming a confrontation on Facebook. Two other people were injured in the shooting.
The victim, identified as Parminder Singh Jhotta, had visited the medical store to confront its owner over allegations that he had sold intoxicating medicines to an elderly man.
The confrontation escalated, and the shop owner allegedly opened fire. The incident was broadcast live on the activist’s Facebook page.
Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Chaudhary told the media that the police would arrest the accused within 24 hours. He also met the injured, who were admitted to hospital for treatment. Markets in Mansa were shut in protest against the killing. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the risks faced by people campaigning against drug abuse in Punjab.
