Patiala MP accuses ruling party of misleading people; Congress leaders raise OPS, law-and-order issues

Patiala MP Dharamvir Gandhi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, calling it a “fraud” and alleging that it had misled people with unfulfilled promises and claims for political gains.

Gandhi alleged that the AAP had made tall promises to people in different states to gain political advantage. He said the people of Punjab would teach the party a lesson in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Gurinder Singh Dhillon also criticised the state government over the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). He alleged that despite a notification being issued, the government had made no serious effort to implement the scheme.

Dhillon alleged that the OPS issue had been used for political campaigning during elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Referring to the Delhi Assembly elections, Dhillon said the Congress had contested the polls strongly against the AAP. He said the party was not happy with the BJP coming to power in Delhi, but claimed it was necessary to counter what he described as the AAP’s “political tactics”.

Dhillon also raised the alleged custodial torture of a youth in Punjab’s Sheron village, demanding registration of an FIR against all officials allegedly involved in the incident.

Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Patiala Rural Congress president, said the party would hold a major protest in Chandigarh in the coming days over the law-and-order situation in Punjab.

The Congress leaders’ remarks came amid the party’s criticism of the AAP government over the OPS, alleged police excesses and law-and-order situation in the state.
