Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the Centre government’s commitment to replacing slums with “Pucca” houses and fostering self-respect for the people living in these new homes and also criticised the Delhi state government for allegedly mismanaging funds meant for education and other public services. “The people of Delhi are committed to fighting against corruption,” Modi remarked, calling for a new era of governance and development in the city. He inaugurated several major development projects in Delhi on Friday , including new housing schemes and education facilities, while outlining his vision for India’s growth in 2025.

Recalling a 2023 visit to Kalkaji Extension, where over 3,000 houses were inaugurated for Jhuggi dwellers, Modi emphasized that the initiative was part of a larger plan to empower families living in informal settlements by providing them with permanent homes. “Today, 1,500 more houses are being handed over, symbolizing new hope and dignity for their families,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also confirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the scope of housing projects through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Since the scheme’s launch, more than 4 crore families across the country have benefited. Modi stressed that the government was dedicated to ensuring that all citizens have access to high-quality housing and basic facilities.

In his speech, the Prime Minister pointed to 2025 as a year of unprecedented opportunities for India, with a focus on economic growth, manufacturing, agricultural innovation, and women-led development. “We are laying the groundwork for India to become the world’s third-largest economy,” Modi said, reaffirming India’s standing as a global symbol of political and economic stability.

Modi also stressed the importance of cities like Delhi in India’s growth story. “Our cities are the foundation of a developed India. People come here to turn their dreams into reality,” he stated, adding that the government would continue to invest in infrastructure to improve the lives of city residents.

On education, Modi expressed pride in the National Education Policy (NEP), which he said would ensure that children from all backgrounds, particularly marginalized communities, would have equal opportunities for success. He also mentioned the construction of new campuses for Delhi University, saying these would provide thousands of new educational opportunities for the city’s youth.

Wrapping up his speech, Modi announced plans to expedite the construction of 3,000 new homes in Delhi, as well as the development of new infrastructure projects in the city, including the Narela sub-city. He expressed confidence that these measures would support Delhi’s rapid urbanization and improve living standards for its residents.

The event was attended by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, along with other dignitaries.
