Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to abide by the Supreme Court’s decision on farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s indefinite hunger strike. According to media reports, speaking to reporters Chouhan said, “We will accept whatever decision the apex court takes.” The matter is scheduled for the Supreme Court hearing today.

Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh informed the court that Dallewal is willing to accept medical aid if the Centre invites farmers for negotiations, media reports said. The Supreme Court has deferred the case to January 2, granting Punjab additional time to resolve the issue.

Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike, remains at the center of ongoing negotiations between the government and protesting farmers. The apex court previously warned Punjab of potential contempt proceedings against Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and DGP Gaurav Yadav if medical intervention was not ensured by December 31.
