Chandigarh, January 1

Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh informed the Supreme Court that according to farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal is ready to accept medical aid if the Centre invites farmers for talks, according to media reports. The Supreme Court deferred the case to January 2, granting Punjab additional time to resolve the matter. Negotiations between the government and protesting farmers are ongoing. The state government has sought three more days to comply with the court’s directive to shift Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike for 36 days, to a hospital.

On December 28, the Supreme Court had warned Punjab of contempt proceedings against Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and DGP Gaurav Yadav if medical aid was not provided by December 31.
