Under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM), significant progress has been achieved with 91% of the total projects completed, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said. Out of 8,066 projects worth ₹1,64,669 crore, 7,352 projects amounting to ₹1,47,366 crore have been finished across 100 cities.
Key accomplishments of the SCM include the establishment of Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC) in all 100 smart cities, deployment of 84,000 CCTV cameras, and installation of 1,884 emergency call boxes and over 3,000 public address systems. The mission has also delivered 1,740 km of smart roads, 713 km of cycle tracks, and modernized 17,026 km of water supply systems monitored through Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
In public services, over 9,433 smart classrooms, 41 digital libraries, 172 e-health centers, and 152 health ATMs have been introduced. Furthermore, technology-driven solid waste management systems are operational in over 66 cities, and 9,194 vehicles have been equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL). The SCM has developed replicable models for urban transformation that act as “lighthouses” for other aspiring cities. These include area-based development and pan-city solutions. Learnings from over 7,000 completed projects have been documented in knowledge resources, available on the mission’s website.
